Shire Hall resident has the world at her fingertips
Ceinwen Jones, 101, has been using internet video phone Skype to explore her granddaughter’s New York flat without leaving the comfort of Shire Hall care home.

Ceinwen first got to grips with the internet when Shire Hall as a pioneering new touchscreen  computer installed. It has enabled her to enjoy face-to-face chats with 38-year-old granddaughter Janine in the Big Apple, more than 3,000 miles away from her Cardiff Bay residential home.

The grandmother of five, who turns 102 on April 4, said, “It’s brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I saw her a week ago and she was in New York and it was clear as day. It’s marvellous.”
Shire Hall activities co-ordinator Tony Reynolds said, “Ceinwen is an inspiration to older people. The computer we had installed has got a keyboard which is oversized for easy access, and there is one big trackball mouse if they want to use it, but they don’t have to if they don’t want to as its touchscreen”.
