Greenhill Manor team build personal garden for 85-year-old gardener
The care team at Greenhill Manor, our home in Merthyr Tydfil have built a personal garden area for a resident after she expressed how much she missed tending to her own garden.
Wendy McNamara, 85 an enthusiastic member of Greenhill Manor’s gardening forum, expressed how much she missed being able to plant some of the beautiful flowers she regularly purchases when out with her son, in her own garden.
Greenhill Manor’s Gardener Rhiannon Lewis and her husband Gareth, who also works at the home, got together and built Wendy a small garden just outside of her bedroom window, which is complete with planters and a table set so Wendy can spend summer afternoons tending to her flowers.
During the construction of her garden at our nursing, dementia and young physically disabled care home, Wendy acted as supervisor and ensured the team wore plenty of sun cream and stayed properly hydrated during the hot weather.
Wendy invited her friends and family to her garden’s grand launch and was left speechless at the ceremony but said her garden was “absolutely breath-taking!”
Customer Relationship Manager at Greenhill Manor, Mitchell Minney said: “It was a fantastic afternoon! Wendy had been looking forward to the unveiling of her new garden and we wanted to make it a special occasion for her to remember.
“We invited some of Wendy’s friends and team members from the home to watch her cut the ribbon and we all enjoyed a glass of bubbly after the ceremony was finished.”
