Anya Court celebrates National Storytelling Week

Anya Court, our care home in Rugby, celebrated National Storytelling Week recently with an intergenerational reading event for Rainbows Girl Guides.

In honour of the annual event which runs from 27th-2nd February, resident Walter Winton, 98 read The Bumblebear and The Gruffalo’s Child to fellow residents and girls from the Bilton 7th Rainbows Unit.

The activity now intends to be a weekly occurrence due to its success, aiding the The Society for Storytelling in their mission to promote the oral tradition of storytelling.

Customer Relationship Manager at Anya Court Care Home, Karen Handley said: “This was a perfect opportunity to join forces with both the Rainbows group and our residents to celebrate National Storytelling Week. The children loved listening to their favourite stories being read by Walter.”

Rainbows Group Leader, Kat Everett said: “I’d like to say thank you to Anya Court for such a lovely opportunity to bring both the elderly and younger generation together, both enjoyed hearing the stories.”

Resident, Walter Winton, 98 said: “I enjoyed reading the stories to the girls, they were a lot longer than I remembered from when I was a child!”
