Hallmark Care Homes commit to making 1000 people Dementia Friends
Dementia Champions at our homes across England and South Wales will attempt to make 1,000 people Dementia Friends this May and Dementia Action Week as part of our commitment to raising awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and helping to transform the way the nation thinks about dementia.
Dementia Action Week, which is an annual event run by the UK’s leading dementia support and research charity, The Alzheimer’s Society, runs from the 21st – 27st May is an important date for us as a care provider as we provide excellent standards of dementia care daily to residents in our homes and an important part of this care is raising awareness of the condition.
Dementia Champions, at our locations will attempt to educate 1,000 people about dementia by running various informative Dementia Friends sessions, which are taught in partnership with The Alzheimer’s Society’s material for team members, relatives and members of the local community.
Each fun and interactive Dementia Friends session takes an hour and explores what it’s like to live with dementia. It will also discuss how you can make someone with dementia live a fulfilled life and the small things you can do to make a difference.
Visitors who complete the course will receive a Dementia Friends badge and takeaway material from The Alzheimer’s Society.
Customer Relationship Manager and Dementia Champion at Anya Court, Karen Handley said: “Our drop in sessions at our Hallmark homes will tell you everything you need to know about dementia. One person every three minutes will develop dementia, therefore it’s important that as a care provider we get the word out there and as a community we become more dementia friendly. We hope members of the public will support us with our mission and take part in one of our enjoyable sessions, make friends and enjoy a slice of cake in one of our beautiful environments.”
