Reunited after 74 years

An 89 year old woman has been reunited with her nephew after 74 years apart.

Resident Phyllis Edgeworth was reunited with Brian McDermott, 74 at an emotional reunion held at Shire Hall, our care home in Cardiff.

Brian was born in 1944 to Phyllis’ older sister Betty Rimell but was put up for adoption three months later and moved to Newport.

The special visit was arranged by Phyllis’s family after Brian found his cousin Elizabeth and subsequently Phyllis whilst tracing his family tree.

Also present at the reunion, was Phyllis’ niece Elizabeth Coombes, 67 whom Phyllis hadn’t’ seen in over 50 years due to lost contact.

Phyllis is one of 19 children and had 17 children – 15 of whom still survive. She also has 43 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren who regularly visit her at the home.

Phyllis Edgeworth, 89 said: “It was lovely to see Brian and Elizabeth after so many years. We had a lovely chat and seeing them made me really happy. It was a wonderful day.”
