90 year old’s wish to meet an elephant comes true
An Anya Court Care Home resident enjoyed a day out to the zoo and a close up encounter with an elephant after winning our wish-granting competition.
Penney Dinmore, 90, who lives at our care home in Rugby, enjoyed a recent all-expenses trip to Woburn Safari Park with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
The special day out which included a road safari, tour of the park, lunch and a meet and greet with an elephant, was granted as part of our homes in-house competition, called Lucky Star.
Her visit was arranged by management at our home after Penney wished to visit the elephants at the zoo in December because for decades they have been her favourite animal.
Penney also has a collection of 200 glass elephants, with her favourites being displayed in her bedroom at Anya Court.
She was announced as one of the winners of the competition in January.
Penney’s daughter, Jane Weston said: “I would like to thank Anya Court for organising my mother’s trip to Woburn to see the elephants.
“She was so excited and smiled throughout the day. The weather was excellent, we had a lovely lunch and the highlight of the day was obviously getting up close to the elephants. It really was a lovely day, and made my mother very happy.”
Customer Relationship Manager at Anya Court Care Home, Karen Handley said: “I am delighted that Penney had such a good time meeting the elephants at the zoo.
“Penney is such a kind and wonderful lady and I am so happy that we have been able to make this wish come true for her. It’s just another example of the relationship-centred care that we aim to provide to the residents at Anya Court.”
