Admiral Court resident has a ‘hoot’ after being granted wish to meet owls

A resident at Admiral Court, our care home in Leigh-on-Sea, enjoyed a close-up encounter with a group of beautiful owls after winning a wish-granting competition.

Terry Walsh, 78, enjoyed sitting centre-stage when the owls visited the home recently and put on an exciting display for him and other interested residents.

The special visit was granted as part of our in-house competition, called Lucky Star, which encourages residents to write a wish of something they would like to have or do over the festive period.

The visit was arranged by management at the home, with assistance from Owls R Us, after Terry expressed that his dream was to own a barn owl following his lifelong passion for falconry.

Following the visit, Terry said: “Words failed me yesterday! It was such a special day. I’d like to thank all the team for giving me this wonderful surprise. It was the best day I’ve had in a very long time.”

Customer Relationship Manager Carl Roberts said: “Terry is such a kind and caring gentleman and I am so happy that we have been able to make this wish come true for him. It is just another example of the relationship-centred care that we aim to provide to the residents at Admiral Court.”

Lifestyles Team Leader at Admiral Court Care Home, Sarah Savidge said: “I have to say that the super professional owl experience provided by Owls R Us was a wonderful treat, not just for Terry but for residents and team who expressed a love and interest in the birds.”
