Bucklesham Grange Care Home bridges the generation gap

Bucklesham Grange, our ‘outstanding’ care home in Ipswich, bridged the generation gap recently by kick-starting a weekly sing-along activity for 0-4 year olds and their parents within the local community.

Our residential, nursing and dementia home on Bucklesham Road, will now host a weekly session every Wednesday called Songs & Smiles held in association with not-for-profit social enterprise, The Together Project.

Songs & Smiles has been designed to entertain and engage everyone from the youngest to the oldest members of the group, through singing, movement, instruments, coloured scarves and bubbles.

Each session lasts approximately an hour, with the creative activity followed by refreshments and a meet and mingle with our homes residents and care team.

The purpose of the activity is to reduce loneliness, improve well-being, tackle ageism and unite local communities through joyful intergenerational activities.

Lifestyle’s Co-ordinator, Rebecca Mann said: “We are delighted to be hosting a weekly Songs & Smiles activity at our home as we know that intergenerational activities can help to improve both the residents’ physical and emotional well-being.

“Our first session went really well and we hope that local parents and their little ones will continue to come along and join us for a great afternoon of socialisation and fun.”

Founder of The Together Project, Louise Goulden said: “Our first Songs & Smiles session at Bucklesham Grange was such a wonderful experience. To see the residents and children enjoying each other’s company, all with huge smiles on their faces, was beautiful to watch. I’m so happy everyone had a great time and I can’t wait to do it all again!”

Bucklesham Grange’s next Songs & Smiles session will take place next Wednesday 27th February at 2:00pm.

Each session is free however donations are welcome.
