Greenhill Manor receives ORCHID award

Greenhill Manor, our care home in Merthyr Tydfil, was recently presented with Hallmark Care Homes’ ORCHID (Outstanding Relationship-Centred Care Home in Dementia) award for achieving all 11 outcomes of our Together Dementia Strategy.

In September 2017, we launched our three-year strategy outlining the actions we will undertake to help our team members deliver outstanding dementia care, training and support.

The strategy was developed following extensive consultation with 100 residents, 75 relatives and 100 team members and has been supported by a £250,000 annual investment to identify the outcomes which would have the most positive effect on our communities.

After adopting a whole home approach and working together, Greenhill Manor, achieved all 11 outcomes one year before their target.

They were recently presented with a special plaque by Hallmark Care Homes’ Managing Director, Ram Goyal, at a ceremony at the home.

Head of Relationship-Centred Care at Hallmark Care Homes, April Dobson said: “Greenhill Manor is a very special place for a number of reasons.  One of the things that makes it special is the way that the team work together to develop new and innovative ways to support and enrich the lives of the people who live there, particularly those who are living with dementia.  They have exceeded our expectations and tailored all of the outcomes in our Together Dementia Strategy to the individual needs of residents and their families, turning the idea of relationship-centred care into reality and I was proud to present them with their award.

“Everyone has been involved in helping to achieve the outcomes; from the housekeeping team who actively support a resident who loves to help them with their daily cleaning rounds, to the maintenance team who encourage two residents to help build a wall in the garden.

“The small things that each and every member of the team do every day have contributed to their success – achieving all 11 outcomes is no small challenge and the whole team should be congratulated.”

General Manager at Greenhill Manor, Mark McCole said: “We are all so proud at Greenhill Manor Care Home to receive the ORCHID Award completing all 11 outcomes of the Dementia Strategy.

“Every team member at Greenhill Manor has worked towards ensuring we make a difference to the residents’ lives by implementing the Together Dementia Strategy.

“We are excited on our continued journey sustaining outstanding relationship-centred care. We have plans to enhance the residents lives further and we are looking forward to the future.”
