Finding Regency House

Janet shares her story of finding the right care home for her mum and dad.

Mum and dad were living at home having home care for years. Unfortunately, we found the care being provided to them at home wasn’t enough for them and for their needs. After many talks with mum and dad we all came to the decision that we would take a look at care homes and see how they felt about them moving forward. Mum and dad realised that they needed more care as being at home was now a struggle. We had difficulty in finding a care home that would be able to facilitate a double room, so mum and dad could stay together and also provide them with the different care needs they both have.

We were told about Regency House Care Home from Nick, the Hospitality Services Manager at the care home and were told many positive things, including that the home would have a double room for mum and dad. When we came to Regency House to have a look around, we had a warm welcome and saw familiar faces which helped us to feel comfortable during this tough period of looking for a care home. We were shown around the home and felt that it had a warm and friendly atmosphere and that it had a five star feel to it. Everyone was very friendly and the facilities were exceptional. We noticed that Regency House had wide corridors. My first impressions were that the home was clean and tidy and it had a large double room that we were looking for. We had visited other care homes during this time and we felt that we didn’t have the same feeling that Regency House gave us when we walked through the doors.

The moving process was smooth as everyone at Regency House was very accommodating and helpful. We were welcomed to come and view the home and the room in which mum and dad would be moving into and also to have a coffee and piece of cake, at any time. Before mum and dad moved into Regency, we told we could bring things from home. We brought clothes that the team were happy to label and familiar family things to help them to feel more comfortable when moving in. We then brought them in to see the room they would be moving into and also the facilities and wonderful activities arranged and organised.

Now mum and dad are settled into the home we feel we can relax and we also feel extremely happy that they are happy and safe. We have professional feedback from the nurses and the care team at Regency House and they always keep us up to date on the care of mum and dad.

We are very happy that mum and dad have settled well into Regency House, so much so that we are in correspondence to move my husbands’ father into the home. We are very impressed with the care, the fine dining menu’s and wonderful fun activities and outings provided at Regency House.

We would like to thank the team for their ongoing support.

Janet and Gary Shellard.
