Shire Hall Care Home receives ORCHID Award
Shire Hall, our care home in Cardiff, has received the ORCHID (Outstanding Relationship-Centred Care Home in Dementia) award for achieving all 11 outcomes of our TOGETHER dementia strategy.
Since its launch in September 2017, our three-year strategy has been successful in highlighting Hallmark Care Homes as one of the leading providers of high-quality relationship-centred care.
The strategy recognises the importance of developing relationships between residents, the team, and the residents’ families and friends with the aim of improving care outcomes for people living with dementia.
The strategy was developed following extensive consultation with 100 residents, 75 families and friends, and 100 care team members. It has been supported by a £250,000 annual investment to identify the outcomes which would have the most positive effects in our communities.
After being given the green light in July 2019 for successfully achieving all outcomes of the strategy, Shire Hall is now the third Welsh Hallmark care home to have received the award.
Hallmark Care Homes’ Managing Director, Ram Goyal, along with Head of Relationship-Centred Care, April Dobson, recently presented the award to the Shire Hall team at a special ceremony.
April said: “The ORCHID award is all about excellence in delivering relationship-centred care and Shire Hall is really good at that. They’ve taken residents to different activities like wall climbing, ice skating, sailing; I’ve never seen anything like it. So, the ORCHID award really is the icing on the cake.”
General Manager of Shire Hall Care Home, Karen Grapes, expressed her appreciation towards the team for achieving the award together.
She said: “I am really thrilled with all the hard work the team has put into achieving this award, especially Sheila Charles, our Lifestyle Lead, and Harriet Boobyer, our Dementia Care Coordinator. This is yet just another great milestone for us and we will continue to work together to develop better life experiences for our residents in our future projects.”
