Shire Hall welcomes their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Team members and residents at Shire Hall, our care home in Cardiff were delighted to welcome their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to the home recently.

During the visit, their Royal Highnesses spoke to some of the team as well as residents and their family members in the homes’ garden whilst following all of the necessary safety precautions.

In May, The Duke and Duchess joined team members and residents from Shire Hall via video call, and took their turn as guest bingo callers for a game in the home’s cinema.

During the recent visit, their Royal Highnesses were able to meet some of the team members and residents from the call-in person and heard how the home has continued to adapt in response to the pandemic.

The couple met Lifestyle’s Leader, Sheila Charles, and Senior Care Assistant, Harriet Boobyer and Dementia Care Coordinator who had both chatted to the royals during their virtual visit in May.

The Duke and Duchess then met a small number of residents from the bingo and their family members who spoke about the challenges of being unable to visit their loved ones at the beginning of the lockdown, how they kept in touch, and the impact of now being able to visit the home.

Managing Director of Hallmark Care Homes, Ram Goyal said: “People have gone through a lot over the past few months so it’s been lovely for them to come to Shire Hall Care Home. It’s really lifted the whole home.”
