Hallmark Care Homes compete in virtual Hallmark in Bloom
Hallmark Care Homes across England and Wales will once again compete in our glorious gardening event, Hallmark in Bloom, only this year, the event and judging will be virtual.
Hallmark in Bloom is an annual competition held to find the greenest garden in the country. This year, Hallmark in Bloom runs from the 7th-15th September with the virtual judging kicking off at Bryn Celyn, our care home in Maesteg, Wales. Judging categories to this year’s event include; ‘Best Gardening Experience for People Living with Dementia’ and ‘Best Use of Outside Space.’
Since its launch in 2003, Hallmark in Bloom has been an important date in the Hallmark Care Homes calendar of events. Our residents make use of our gardens throughout the year and enjoy participating in our weekly gardening clubs but taking part in the competition allows us to create a much bigger impact. It’s an opportunity for our residents to live an active, and independent lifestyle and showcase their efforts throughout the year.
The homes have been pulling out all the stops to make sure they are in ‘full bloom’ come judgement day. From growing their own fruits and vegetables to bringing the outside in, each home is making use of their outdoor space in their own unique way.
This year was a little bit different to the usual celebration, as team members were asked to send in five-minute videos of their beautiful gardens prior to the virtual judging. The videos included socially-distanced interviews with residents, team members and a walk round of the stunning outdoor areas.
This year, the judges to the green-fingered event will include; Managing Director Ram Goyal, Head of Relationship-Centred Care April Dobson, Operations Director Cheryl Wanklyn, Operations Director Aneurin Brown, Regional Landscape Gardener Nick Mannion and Hayley Hughes from Plantology who has been the supporting the Hallmark teams with tips and ideas to improve their outdoor areas.
