Residents knit poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion

Residents at Banstead Manor, our care home in Banstead have knitted over 100 poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

Dora Tagg, 91 and Jean Stimpson, 92 have been knitting since October at our residential and dementia home to keep busy and raise much needed funds for members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants.

So far, they have raised over £340 by selling poppies to families and friends of Banstead Manor Care Home on social media.

Dora who did three and a half years of service in the Wrens helping service men and women said: “The poppies were popular last year but this year it’s more important as people are not buying paper poppies like they used to, I was in the wrens when I was 19 and it’s important to me to support our services.”

Customer Relationship Manager at Banstead Manor, Emma Weller said: “Dora and Jean have been amazing knitting all the poppies and they have been so popular with our visitors and online, the furthest we have sent one currently is Ireland! They have been truly overwhelmed with the support and are so pleased with how much they have raised.”

If you would like to purchase a poppy from Dora and Jean please contact Emma Weller on 01737 351353 or email Emma.Weller@hallmarkcarehomes.co.uk.
