Arlington Manor team member to take part in 12 hour tennis marathon
Customer Relationship Manager at Arlington Manor Care Home, Martin Dickson, has organised and will be taking part in a 12-hour tennis marathon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support on 4th July.
Macmillan is a charity that provides physical, financial and emotional support from the moment a person is diagnosed with cancer, through your treatment and beyond and is a charity close to Martin’s heart.
The event will take place at Wortham Tennis Club from 8am to 8pm, where Martin will be playing doubles for 12 hours, with just a few minutes break every hour.
Martin said: “My Dad was a true inspiration, not just to me and my family but to countless friends, colleagues and fellow sportspeople. He touched so many people with his warm heart and generous spirit, and it is 10 years since Cancer took him from us.
“Macmillan were incredible during his illness, and I wanted to give something back to help others in the same position.
“He was a hugely keen and skilful tennis player. He taught me to play when I was small, and was a great teacher, partner and opponent on hundreds of occasions over the years. He gave me a love of the game, a love of sneaky shots, and Wortham Tennis Club even have a court named after him, for everything he contributed to them and the local community.
“There will be fun and games throughout the day as the tennis club are also hosting an Open Day at the same time. All ages and levels are very welcome.
“Very kindly Stefan, our Chef here at Arlington Manor is preparing a special themed tennis cake for the event and to share with my fellow players, and to hopefully keep me going for the full 12 hours.”
Martin has already raised a whopping £929 but hopes to raise £1,000 for the worthy charity. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so here.
