War veteran Bob turns 102!

Robert (Bob) Healey, a resident at Ty Enfys, our care home in Cardiff has celebrated his 102nd birthday!

Bob, who was born on 1st July 1920, celebrated his special day with a meal with his close family at a local pub. Robert also received a home-made cake and celebration balloons from the home.

Bob, who was born in Bournemouth and grew up in Poole, joined the army and fought in the second world war. There, he learnt the skills to become an electrician which took him into his future career.  He worked in the mines as an electrician and then moved onto steelworks. Bob, who has three children and one step-child now has six grandchildren, Katie, Jonathan, Lynsey, Julia, Nick and Gemma.

Bob said: “Cheers to a long happy life and cod liver oil. There’s no secret to living so long, just luck.” During his life, Bob has kept very active playing golf.

Customer Relationship Manager at Ty Enfys Care Home, Bethan Hurley said: “It is wonderful to celebrate such a milestone with Bob. He is an inspiration to so many being so fit and healthy at this great age.”
