Care home in Cardiff Bay

Located just a short walk from Cardiff Bay, with views of the Millennium Stadium, Shire Hall, our 98-bedroom care home, is proud to have been awarded ‘Best Interior Dementia Design’ at the 2017 National Dementia Care Awards. Providing the highest standards of residential, nursing and dementia care, our compassionate, relationship-centred approach to care is designed to promote active and independent living for all residents.

Life at Shire Hall Care Home

We aim to make life at Shire Hall a home-from-home for residents. We actively encourage and support them to carry on enjoying the familiar everyday routines and hobbies they are used to, be it seeing a favourite film in the cinema, pottering in the garden or relaxing in our therapy room. Our ‘Farmhouse Kitchen’ offers a place for residents to relax and socialise over a fresh coffee. It also encourages independence by allowing residents to bake or prepare food with support from our highly trained care team. We also have a busy activities schedule, which ranges from fine dining evenings to arts and crafts and gardening groups. We even have our own darts team – The Shire Hall Shufflers’ who compete with other care homes in the area. Each of our rooms has its own telephone and TV point and residents can bring some of their own furniture to make their environment more familiar and reassuring if they wish to.

To further aid the settling in process at our care home in Cardiff, we ask each resident, with the help of their family, to fill out an ‘About Me’ book so we can really get to know them, how they like to be addressed, their likes and dislikes, any hobbies or interests they might have, their favourite foods, what music they like to listen to, and anything else that will help us to provide better care and support.

Why Choose Shire Hall?

Our experienced and dedicated care team understand how emotional moving into a care home can be. Our collaborative, relationship-centred ethos puts the needs and preferences of residents first. We fully abide by the Hallmark Care Homes Charter, which means we endeavour to create a stimulating and supportive community that raises the quality of life for all residents, and our dementia community is specially designed and equipped to accommodate the specific needs of residents living with dementia.

We know how important good food is to residents and are proud to have won silver at the Wales Care Awards, in the ‘Excellence in Catering in Care’ category. We provide also beautiful, home cooked dinners that we know residents look forward to.
