Moreover, at our care home in Rhondda Cynon Taf we also have outdoor spaces, which offer views to the stunning Welsh valleys that surround the home. Residents can relax and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air or participate in a spot of gardening in preparation for our annual Hallmark in Bloom competition, where we pitch our homes gardens against each other! This is something that residents greatly enjoy with activities ranging from painting flower pots and making garden mobiles, to potting plants. For those that prefer to take part in gardening from the comfort of their own room, we can bring the garden to them with activities such as potting hanging baskets indoors.

For our care team this is an important first step to building a strong, supportive relationship, essential to delivering bespoke, high-quality relationship-centred care. It also helps us plan the sorts of activities that will make living at Ty Porth more interesting and enjoyable.

I am the General Manager of Ty Porth, having been in post since August 2018. I have been a qualified nurse for over 20 years, specialising mainly in palliative care and end of life. I decided to change to care home nursing in 2014 and haven’t looked back! I love my job and the challenges it brings. The time I spend with the residents, finding out their life story and building relationships is the reason I enjoy working in a care home. Every resident is an individual and I strive to ensure they receive the best relationship-centred care we can deliver. I was very proud win the Gold award for ‘Nurse of the Year’ at The Wales Care Awards in 2017. My aim for Ty Porth is to become the leading provider of relationship-centred care in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
