In August 2023, Hallmark Luxury Care Homes were the proud recipients of a Princess Royal Training Award from HRH The Princess Royal and City and Guilds, recognising our exceptional commitment to learning and development.

HRH The Princess Royal, President of the City and Guilds of London Institute, has approved 53 Awards to a range of organisations across the UK and Ireland, for their outstanding training and skills development programmes, all of which have shown a significant positive impact on their organisation and people.

AnnMarie Duggan, Talent Development Manager, along with Claire Collen, Head of Learning & Development, recently attended the first-ever Princess Royal Training Awards Skills Share event at the London Guildhall. The event brought together a distinguished group of Award Alumni from the past nine years, creating a space for sharing knowledge and insights of learning and development.

The event offered a mix of panel discussions and collaborative table conversations, providing attendees with opportunities to share their journeys to receiving the award and the significant impact it has had on their organisations, teams, and broader communities. The atmosphere was vibrant with a sense of shared purpose as everyone exchanged ideas and discussed best practices. Our team members found the event invaluable, drawing inspiration from the connections made and the insights exchanged. Among the key takeaways our team brought back were:

  • Investing in Training: Acknowledging that the skills in demand today may not be the same tomorrow.
  • Role of Trainers: Trainers are key in translating complex knowledge into accessible learning, bridging the gap between information and its application.
  • Uncovering Learning Needs: Asking the right questions can help identify hidden learning needs, allowing for more effective training programmes.
  • Cost of Not Training: The potential long-term costs of neglecting training, reinforcing the need to prioritise learning and development.
  • Continuous Support: They emphasised the value of ongoing support after training sessions to ensure concepts are fully understood and applied.
  • Values-Led Training: Training that aligns with core values can have a transformative effect on individuals, fostering motivation, self-worth, and a sense of belonging.
  • Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: The event underscored the importance of collaboration among experts, encouraging sharing and learning from one another to advance the field.

A key highlight was the inspiring talk from HRH The Princess Royal, who stressed the need to develop learning and development programmes that have a real, positive impact on individuals. By fostering motivation, self-worth, and a sense of belonging, these programmes can create environments where people are empowered to thrive.

Overall, the Princess Royal Training Awards Skills Share event was an incredible opportunity for our team to connect with fellow professionals and gather insights that will guide their future efforts. Our learning and development team are eager to implement what they have learnt and continue their mission to make a meaningful difference in the world of learning and development.
