Admiral Court Residents and Team to Take On ‘Race for Life’ for Cancer Research

Two residents at Admiral Court Care Home in Leigh on Sea, Essex are tackling Southend’s Race for Life event in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Best friends, Pat Hemmings and Flo Pamment will join team members Rebekah, Kelly and Sarah for the event.

The daring quintet have raised nearly £200 between them through an array of fundraising initiatives at the home, which specialises in dementia, nursing and palliative care.

The team members, who have never participated in the event before, have trained for the 5km walk by taking lots of walks around the Essex countryside.

General Manager, Rebekah Smith said: “At Admiral Court we provide palliative care to residents with a terminal cancer diagnosis. We have all been affected by those that we care for and we wanted to do something in their memory.”

Admiral residents, Flo, 87 and Pat, 76 are arguably more prepared for the event, having attended the 4 mile Memory Walk in Southend last year raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Pat said: “I am a survivor of cancer and so is Flo. I also lost my husband to the disease. It’s a cause close to both of us.”

Flo added: “We are both very active. I am not apprehensive about the event. I walk three miles every other day and can still do high kicks, and Pat used to do ballroom dancing!”

The determined ladies will undertake the 3 mile walking event, which is expected to take about an hour on Eastern Avenue in Southend on the 10th May.
