Alexandra Grange wins ‘Best Residential and Care Home Garden’ at Wokingham Town Council’s Green Fingers competition
Alexandra Grange, our care home in Wokingham has been named ‘Best Residential and Care Home Garden’ at the annual Wokingham Green Fingers gardening competition.
The home which specialises in residential and dementia care, was praised for its resident involvement and accessibility of the gardens at the Wokingham council’s awards.
The awards first established in 2005, seek to find the greenest gardens in Wokingham. Categories range from ‘Best Front Garden’ to ‘Best Window Box and Container.’
Adriana Fernandes-Bowyer, Alexandra Grange’s lifestyle co-ordinator said: “We are really pleased to have won this award, all of the care team and residents have been working hard to make sure our gardens are in ‘full bloom’ for the summer.”
A panel of judges from Wokingham Town Council and Wokingham Horticultural Association visited the home at the start of the month, along with three other entrants before coming to their decision.
Entrants were judged on the overall look of their gardens, wheelchair accessibility and the use of fresh produce in the home.
Paul Smith, amenities officer for Wokingham Town Council said: “the standard in 2015 was higher than it has ever been.
“We saw four care homes and two stood out – you could see a lot of thought and effort went into Alexandra Grange and there was plenty of resident involvement which was nice to see.”
Alexandra Grange will receive their award at a presentation evening in September hosted by Wokingham Town Mayor, Councillor Phillip Mirfin.
