Ty Enfys resident celebrates 100th birthday
A resident at Ty Enfys, our care home in Pentwyn recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Joan Macwhirter spent her special day with 30 of her family and friends including; her daughter Jane, daughter in law Trudi, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and later celebrated with other well-wishers at the home.
Joan was born on 16th May 1919 in Loughborough, Leicestershire. She worked as a PE Teacher in Loughborough until she met her late husband William, whilst walking dogs in the fields. The couple married after the war in 1945 and went on to have two children.
Joan received a card from the Queen congratulating her on her milestone and celebrated her birthday with a family party at the care home.
Joan, 100 said: “I was delighted to have received a telegram from the queen to celebrate my 100th Birthday.
“My secret to longevity is to eat well, exercise, work hard and get plenty of fresh air.”
Customer Relationship Manager at Ty Enfys, Barbara Wills said: “Joan has been a resident at Ty Enfys for almost three years and she is much-loved by all of us here. I am so pleased to hear that she had a great day, as she thoroughly deserves it.”
