Residents at Lakeview Knit for Mental Health
The residents at Lakeview Care Home are knitting to donate a variety of items to a charity called Knit for Mental Health.
This small charity was the started by Jane George to help her cope with her grief when her youngest son Llŷr tragically took his own life aged just 19 last year.
Their purpose is to raise funds for mental health charities by making and selling products that are knitted and crocheted with love by volunteers across the county and, where possible, they use yarn that is donated to them. Jane has kindly sent some donated yarn to Lakeview for the residents to knit with.
One of her other sons is Dr Alex George, former Love Island contestant and A&E Doctor, who was recently appointed as the Youth Ambassador for Mental Health.
Customer Relationship Manager at Lakeview Care Home, Louise Martin said: “Our regular Knit and Natter activity is always a great opportunity to meet and chat over some tea and cake whilst knitting.
“Tom Daley’s recent admission that knitting relaxed him and kept him calm under pressure when he was waiting to dive at competitions and whilst travelling the world to compete has put this sometimes-forgotten hobby right back into the spotlight.”
If you would like to donate some wool or yarn to Lakeview or if you would like to knit something to donate to Knit for Mental Health, please contact Customer Relationship Manager, Louise Martin on louise.martin@hallmarkcarehomes.co.uk
