Meet Dementia Care Manager at Admiral Court, Jessica Davies
We recently caught up with Dementia Care Manager at Admiral Court Care Home in Leigh-on-Sea, Jessica Davies, to find out how she has made an impact since assuming her role and how she ensures residents with dementia are supported to continue living a life they love.
In September 2021, I joined Hallmark as the Dementia Care Manager at Admiral Court Care Home. Having joined from outside of the organisation, the days ahead filled me with excitement and also feelings of anxiety towards the unknown. Here I am, nine months on, well established as the Dementia Care Manager.
Changing dementia culture was huge part of my role. When I first joined Admiral Court, it took commitment and dedication to support the team to engage with new approaches and ideas, whilst supporting residents living with dementia. Some of these changes evolved through education of team members to help embed new practises. Being available and present to work alongside the team, coaching and mentoring them, has helped me to see the team develop and demonstrate not only an understanding of the Hallmark Values, but also a deeper understanding of residents living with dementia.
December saw the launch of the new Welcome Home Dementia Strategy. The strategy has definitely helped me to use my passion to promote active support and advocate independence. Knowing and respecting each person’s individuality has helped me to lead and guide the team with suggestions around how we can support people to continue doing those things they enjoy, such as continuing to do their own laundry, gardening, making their own breakfast and going out to the local shops to purchase their favourite items.
I feel the future looks bright. The support I receive from the wider Regional Dementia Team, I know will always give me the opportunities, support and guidance to help develop both my own skills and also any new learning skills. Having access to such great resources such as Talking Mats have all made such a positive difference.
