School pupils at St Julian’s Church School in Wellow have been able to enjoy World Book Day after a generous donation from Midford Manor Care Home.

Our new residential, dementia and nursing home coming soon to Bath donated £500 worth of Amazon vouchers to celebrate the national event, which promotes reading for pleasure and changes lives through a love of books.

Care workers at our home on Frome Road hope the donation will give children some of the support they need to learn and develop as well as have fun reading new books.

General Manager at Midford Manor Care Home, Carol Britton said: “We are delighted that we have been able to provide these vouchers which will be used to purchase books for children living in our community. St Julian’s School in Wellow is our nearest village school and we look forward to more intergenerational work with them in the future. It feels great to be able to encourage children to read with their families, friends and teachers and I hope that they enjoy reading the books for many years to come.”

Head of St Julian’s Church School, Isobel Mills said: “The children and staff of St Julian’s Church School would like to extend an enormous thank you to Midford Manor Care Home for the extremely generous donation. Books are an integral part of learning, but they are also a very expensive resource to keep up-to-date. Your incredible donation will ensure that we can continue to revitalise the books in our classroom book corners and nurture a love of reading throughout our school. The children are busy writing wish lists and we can’t wait to share with you the books we purchase.”
