A couple at Anya Court, our care home in Rugby, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a celebration at the home.
Shirley and Michael Roberts met in Malta in a broadcasting studio where they were both volunteers. Shirley was an infant school teacher in the Royal Navy and Michael was in the Royal Air Force.
Michael proposed to Shirley in a hotel lounge and they were married in 1963 at Shirley’s Parish Church in her hometown of Croydon on the 5th January. They had a white wedding where it snowed.
They initially returned to Malta before moving back to the UK, where they had two children, both boys, who moved to Chester and Wales.
Shirley said: “The secret to a long relationship is to love each other from the start, talk about problems and sort them out together.”
