The purpose of His Majesty’s visit was to meet much-loved resident at Hallmark Lakeview, Ethel Caterham, who at 116 years old is the world’s oldest living person. It was a joyful, once-in-a-lifetime occasion, and our privilege to help make the visit extra special for Ethel. The happiness it brought to her, and her family, is something we will treasure for years to come.
During his time at Hallmark Lakeview Care Home in Lightwater, Surrey, the King shared a warm and memorable conversation with Ethel. Holding her hand, he listened as she recalled fond memories from his investiture as Prince of Wales more than 50 years ago. With her trademark humour, she remarked that “all the girls were in love with you and wanted to marry you,” a comment which brought laughter and light-heartedness to the room.
